Eat Stop Eat refers to a 24 hour cycle of fasting. Straightforward advice about nutrition and a lot of myth-busting about diets. Not a lot of rules about what one can and cannot eat. Brad Pilon is pretty chill. I believe he is Canadian.
Pretty heavy on the science, but Pilon breaks it all down into manageable chunks. I didn't feel overwhelmed; my brain felt agreeably stretched.
Well researched, poorly edited
In a way this read like a prolonged high school research paper. That said, the science is well founded and the book is well researched. However, I hope he hires an editor to deal with the numerous typos and syntax errors for the next edition.
I've been implementing intermittent fasting and periodic 24-hour fasts into my life for a little over half a decade now. I thought I had a pretty good grasp on fasting and the benefits it provides, but despite my own personal research and studies, Brad was able to teach me more about fasting and he has the research to back it. The fact that every claim Brad makes is backed by one or multiple peer-reviewed articles is a BIG deal. Most fitness-experts and gurus nowadays spit out grossly inaccurate..more
Good advice
I was advised to read this book, by a blog I love. The advice to read the book and the advice in the book are TOP notch. I even looked up a lot of the books references and they check out. My lifestyle change starts tomorrow.

Doable type of fasting
The info on the benefits of fasting is nothing new, but how he explains this type of fasting that you can easily apply it to your life is great.

I am always interested in eating and training methods and I enjoyed this book. I like the author's perspective and method of intermittant fasting. I appreciated the reminder that Americans are heavily influenced by advertising, and our style of eating has been molded to support the interests of major food companies.
Eye openers for me: (every pound of muscle on your body only burns about 5 calories per day, not 50 like commonly stated). WTFreally? I need more information on this! And a nice remi..more
Excellent book..very practical and flexible approach to weight loss.
Short Chapters..pointed advice..practical and flexible approach to weight loss. Several myths busted such as effect on metabolism, timing of workout nutrition, muscle loss etc. I always believed that I wouldn't be able to fast. In fact I tried and failed. But once I read this book and accepted the fact that I can do fasting, I actually could it. Benefits are immense. I chose the best day to start fasting. In terms of mood, mo..more

This is a good book on what you should think about when incorporating fasting into your diet. Again reinforcing the benefits of fasting by pointing out the ability to make limited changes to your diet as an primary benefit of this approach to weight loss. Unlike other books on the subject it does not bore you with non-stop promotion of fasting, but rather gives applicable suggestions backed by real studies. The emphasis is definitely on 24 hour fasting in this book, but they do touch on other ty..more
Based on existing research, this book is a good starting point if you’re interested in intermittent fasting.
I’ve been a intermittent fasting practitioner myself for over 6 years. Compared to the 24 hour fast recommended in this book, I do a 16ish/8 fast daily. This book however got me interested in trying out some longer (24 hours) fasts.
Excellent and Informative!
I am researching IF (intermittent fasting) and came across this book. It's easy to read and explains the science (without being too sciency) of IF. I like the simplicity of Eat Stop Eat and will be incorporating ESE into my lifestyle. This is an excellent read and will become a staple in my library.
Logical and well researched
Finally! Mr Pillon had debunked the 'World of Weight Loss'! It is intuitive that fasting creates a calorie deficit, and it follows that only by having consumed fewer calories than our body needs will it doo into our energy stores (fat). No axe to grind, no program or supplements to sell, just info BASED ON CLINICAL RESEARCH! Well done!
A quick read, but I appreciated the tremendous amount of research that went into the philosophy of the lifestyle presented. As an Exercise Scientist, I'm always looking for ways to live a healthier life, and I'm looking forward to implementing some changes based on this insightful read!
I have no idea how to rate or review a book like this, and I haven’t read many food science or diet books, but I did like it, and much better than the few books I have read, namely, Atkins and South Beach which to me make food boring.
Well researched and thorough.
I would recommend this to anyone who is tired of trying every diet out there. Easy to implement and a solution for a lifetime. I am tired of dieting and this makes a lot of sense.

Very well researched.
Quick read loaded with useful information. Simplicity at its finest when considering all the unrealistic results seen on late night infomercial and on the cover of “Health Magazines” Brad Pilon Workout
Very helpful
This book was very helpful in understanding how fasting actually works. In my view, it is the best book I read on the subject.
Great read!
I have already completed one fast and plan on fasting twice a week from now on while working out 2 to 3 times a week.

Wanted to try intermittent fasting.
Very clear explanation.
Really interesting read and very thorough in research. Technical enough to help you learn, but not so technical that you want to quit.
Interesting concept
This is most informative. I will probably give it a try. Still confused if I should take my usual meds during the fast. Maybe the net has some info on it.
This is the best book I have read on health, nutrition and fitness. Easy to read and it just makes sense!!
Fasting info
I felt like it was a good source of info regarding fasting. Seemed like a lot of research was used. Also liked how nothing was pushed on you.

Interesting
This book gives new incentives and information about the fasting option. Lots of information to process, but it's definitely doable, and apparently beneficial
Informative and Simple
I enjoyed the authors straight forward and data based approach. The author made a great case for fasting as a means for weight control.
Ok but highly repetitive
The author makes a few good points but 80% of the book is those points repeated over and over again.

Phi-lifeWeight-loss guru Brad Pilon based his plan “Eat Stop Eat” on the theory of intermittent fasting, which focuses on when you eat rather than the types of foods you include or restrict. According to Pilon, who has a background in the sports supplement industry and nutrition, scientific evidence indicates that brief, regular fasts promote weight loss and retention of muscle better than diets that eliminate certain foods or cut your number of daily calories. As a bonus, intermittent fasting may also lower your risk of chronic diseases. Pilon’s plan involves fasting up to two times a week, and it does not require you to give up any specific food group. This type of regimen does have drawbacks, however, and may not be for everyone.
